Geckos are small lizards belonging to the family 'Gekkonidae' which are found in warm climates throughout the world. 

• The 'Northland Green Gecko' however is only found in the northern regions of New Zealand. 

There are 1196 different species of Geckos. 

• The name stems from the Indonesian/Javanese word 'gekok' imitative of it's cry.
